History

Department of Psychology, established in 1960, is one of premier departments of the University, incessantly offering various academic programs at U.G. and P.G. levels, Doctoral research work leading to Ph.D. degree and Post-Doctoral research in various fields of Psychology. Some of the areas of research programs are Health Psychology, Cognitive-Affective Processes, Positive Psychology, Personality Psychology, Clinical Psychology and Social Psychology. Department is also conducting self-financed professional course of P.G. Diploma in Psychotherapy, Counseling and Guidance with good placement records for students in various health care organizations and M. Phil. in Psychology (discontinued). The department has a rich past enriched by the leadership and vast experiences of Late Ram Murti Lumba, Late Prof. N. N. Sen, Late Prof. Dhapola, Prof. G. P. Thakur, Late Prof. B. D. Mishra, Late Dr. S. N. Shrivastava, Dr. R. Mohan, Dr. Shanta Khatri, Prof. Gayatri, Prof. L. N. Singh and Prof. Anand Kumar.

The department has to its credit publication of more than 450 research papers in accredited International and National journals, 11 books, 60 chapters in books and 15 psychological tests by the faculty members of the Department. Department has organized 02 International and 03 National Conferences; 01 National Workshop, 04 Orientation Course on Research Methodology and 01 regional conference and directed Major and Minor projects sponsored by ICSSR and UGC.

Department has its own Psychology Alumni Association also with a life membership of more than 250 alumnus.
